Happy 2019!
The Walkspan Group wishes you great success, peace and happiness in 2019! This year we look forward to learning from your stories and sharing with you our work towards making sense of the urban public realm and the experience of walking.
2018 was an exciting year for Walkspan—we filed our non-provisional patent on walkability assessment processes and technologies, we launched a navigation App for walking and developed an API for real estate to help property seekers find the best walkable neighborhoods using seven dimensions. Through our ongoing data collection, we completed work on Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, and Manhattan sidewalks. We developed a sidewalk assessment manual and employed our microscale walkability research methodology in two health projects in Manhattan for obesity prevention and older adult living and initiated effort towards finding the best walking route while counting steps. We also led a MAS Jane’s Walk event in the West Village and Central Harlem.
2019 will be the year to scale, to bridge the gap between health and the built environment, and to connect with many cities in order to measure and celebrate the quality and value of their walking environment.
Best wishes,
